Chick Peas
Chickpeas in Western Canada are a relatively new special crop. Average annual production from 2007 - 2010 was just over 100,000 mt. Canadian farmers produce both the larger caliber Kabuli type and the smaller Desi type of chickpeas. Climatic conditions dictate that most of the production in the more arid Southwest portion of Saskatchewan. Roy Legumex buys directly from kabuli growers, cleans out all foreign material and separates by size. Desi chickpeas are dehulled and split to produce Chana Dal.
